I am currently completing 2 graduate degrees in Human Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology from Bastyr University. I will be graduating June 2017.
When I have completed my studies I will be able to begin working as a Certified Nutritionist (CN) as specified by Washington State. I will have a similar scope of practice as that of a Registered Dietician (RD), except I will not be qualified to work with patients on a medically managed diet.
Following graduation I will begin a 3000 hour supervised training as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA). I must complete this training before I can practice independently as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I will also be completing my supervisory requirement as a Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) during that time.
Why oh why all the training and alphabet soup after my name? I intend on coaching those afflicted with chronic pain. Chronic pain is a complicated condition that affects physical, emotional and psychological functioning. Chronic pain can have mysterious origins, resulting in the discouraging label of malingering. The source of pain can be uncovered through comprehensive, integrated and hands on analysis.
The current approach to chronic pain involves prescriptions to addictive medications. Treating a chronic condition with addictive chemicals will only result in continued suffering. I hope to offer an alternative through yoga, massage, nutrition and counseling.
